Giant Sequoia is an iconic evergreen conifer known for it's cinnamon-red bark, long lifespan, and for towering above all others in any landscape on the West Coast. Among the largest trees on earth, it forms a dense canopy of blue-green foliage that adds shade to home sites, landscapes, and other naturalized areas, as well as shelter for wildlife.

Giant Sequoia, like most conifers, exhibits steady year-round growth and doesn't have a "showy" bloom cycle. New shoot growth starts in late spring when soil temperatures warm to 50°F and air temperatures reach an average of 55°F.
Through late spring and summer growth will continue if adequate soil moisture is provided. As summer becomes drier, growth will slow but does not fully stop until early fall, when cooling temperatures signal it's dormancy phase. It will remain evergreen through winter, and resume growth in the spring.

Giant Sequoia performs best in full sun and deep, well drained soils that receive consistent moisture. While semi-adaptable when established, it prefers sites with room to grow both above and below the ground. When selecting a site, keep in mind this tree's full mature size.
Plant in spring or early fall, allowing generous spacing from buildings, roads, and other desirable trees. Water deeply and regularly during the first several years to establish a strong root system, especially during dry summers.
